Vultac® - Alkylphenol disulfide
Vultac® products are alkylphenol disulfide oligomers, commonly used as nitrosamine-free vulcanizing agents. They act both as sulfur donors and as vulcanizing agents in rubber compositions. Thanks to their many advantages, Vultac® products enable formulators to reduce formulation costs while improving the performance of finished articles.
Vultac® products act as unique vulcanizing agents, forming both hybrid and conventional sulfur-containing bridges, as illustrated in the figure below. Hybrid bonds are made up of alkylphenol groups linked to elastomer chains by monosulfide or disulfide bridges.
Benefits and features:
In rubber, Vultac® grades as vulcanizing agents offer the following advantages:
Thermal stability for better reversion resistance and thermal resistance.
Relatively long hybrid bridges allow greater flexibility and improve mechanical and dynamic properties.
Other key properties :
- Non-blooming
- Non-staining
- Better adhesion due to tackiness
- Antioxidant behavior
Improved co-vulcanization
Vultac® products are particularly recommended for halobutyl rubber applications (CIIR, BIIR, BIMS), but are also successfully used in a wide range of rubber formulations, including IIR, EPDM, NR, SBR and NBR.
